If given a chance
I always dreamed of having a house set on a mountain where the coldest temperatures reside. When I was a kid, I always scribble on my father’s architectural books (which always comes with a few pages dedicated for notes) houses with so many floors and chimneys mounted on the rooftop. Every ambitious tropical native would do that. I currently live in a tropical country and of course, as you know we do not have snow in here. Upon growing up, I realized many things. Being a tropical country does not prevent one to have cold places like those in the temperate areas in the northern and southernmost parts of the word.
There are places in the Philippines where temperatures may reach as low as 10 degrees Celsius if the climate may allow, and most of these areas are located in the most northern part of our country. These places are mostly mountainous (cities and towns that are established thousands of feet above sea level). I have been in Baguio once, believing that it is the coldest part of the nation. I used to disbelieve my colleagues whenever they tell me that houses in Baguio city have fireplaces and other temperature heating appliances built in or mounted inside. If that has been the case, I should see the houses in Baguio myself and prove these claims wrong. And then I realized I was all wrong since the time I first heard my colleagues about the chimneys and other hot electric devices in Baguio due to the cold climate in there.
If given a chance, I am going to build a house somewhere in the northern Philippines. I want to make sure that gas fires, or better yet electric fires will be set on every corner of the house (if it’s a big one) or a humongous grand fireplace in the living room if all I care about is living alone. Hotprice.co.uk has a good range of gas and electric fireplaces, btw.
