ONE WEEK OF POVERTY
It’s the routine of the Bernardos’ here in Cavite. Before ending each month, we should first struggle for a whole week with a 2 thousand peso (or less) budgetary allowance. And if the case turns worse, we don’t have worries since my mom’s psychedelic ‘friendship’ powers will pull us out of hunger. Oh by the way, we usually ran out of budget for 2 primary reasons:
- My mom lent some thousand bucks to our needy neighbors, parasites I call them except for those of my mom’s closest friends
- My mom paid our school fees.
The probability of my mom to borrow money from her kumares is multiplied by two. Sometimes .5.
Actually, my dad’s monthly ‘padalas’ are sufficient enough to sustain our weekly dietary, academic, and recreational (hehe) requisites. But we always have short budgets on the last week of every month. Marami nang mahirap sa Pilipinas. By the time each week passes after the reception of salaries, people tend to spend more and save less. And since they have friends who would likely be tolerating their habit, the possibility of a family to maintain its budgetary allowance for a week is reduced by a greater fraction. And since marami nang naubusan ng buget sa last month, marami ang nagiging ‘bangko de oro’.
We’re currently enjoying the benefits of my mom’s friendliness.
